SUBJECT: 2019 ELECTION OF DIRECTORS FOR THE STATE BOARD
In accordance with the TPEA Bylaws, it has been determined by the Board of Directors that three (3) directors shall be elected to the State Board of Directors this year. The following directors have terms ending on August 31, 2019:
Julia Johnson – Retiree - Austin – Not eligible for a 2nd term
Rusty Smith – TxDOT - Lubbock – Not eligible for a 2nd term
Shirley Reynolds – Retiree - Lufkin – Eligible for a 2nd term
Below are the rules and procedures to be used in this year's election as defined in the Bylaws:
- Nominations for a Director position shall be recommended to the President and Board by the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee shall solicit recommendations for Director nominations from the membership of the Association. It shall submit its nominations to the Board not less than (60) days prior to the annual meeting. After the nominations period ends, the Secretary of the Association shall determine whether each nominee is eligible to be a candidate and serve as a Director and certify the same to the President of the Association.
- No more than forty-nine percent (49%) of the Directors may be an employee of the same state agency.
- Directors serve at large and may come from any geographic area of the state of Texas. They no longer represent a specific region.
- Active members of the Association shall elect Directors at the annual meeting. All active and retired employees of the State of Texas who are TPEA members in good standing are eligible to vote at the annual meeting.
The next annual meeting will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 in Austin.
