Vote for Cheryl MacBride in ERS Board Runoff Election
Voting in the runoff election for the ERS Board of Trustees begins today, June 3 and continues through July 7. Eligible voters should receive a ballot and other related information in the mail around today. Voters can return the ballot through the mail or vote online at http://www.ers.state.tx.us/news/articles/20090602.aspx. TPEA and other state employee and retiree groups have all endorsed Cheryl MacBride as the best qualified candidate for the ERS Board.
TPEA is urging all eligible voters to participate in this election. During the initial round of voting, only 12.25 percent of the 262,801 eligible voters participated, and a sizeable majority of participating voters were state retirees. Please make your voice heard by voting for Cheryl MacBride in the runoff election.
The ERS Board of Trustees plays a vital role in assuring the effective management of ERS programs and the investment of $20 billion in retirement funds. ERS runs the single largest health plan in Texas, with over a half million participants in the HealthSelect group benefits plan. In their role as fiduciaries for ERS members, members of the Board of Trustees serve as the guardians of our retirement funds to assure they are prudently invested.
Cheryl MacBride is clearly the most qualified candidate. She has a degree in Finance, she worked as a banker for a number of years, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner. Mrs. MacBride also has many years of high level management experience with the General Land Office and Veterans Land Board, where she serves as Deputy Commissioner for Administration.
Although her opponent has served on the ERS Board for over five years, TPEA is unable to identify any significant leadership efforts on her part for active or retired state employees. Given the importance of the programs ERS Trustees oversee, we strongly advise a vote for Cheryl MacBride.
Please vote today. Follow this link: http://www.ers.state.tx.us/news/articles/20090602.aspx to vote online. You can also follow the voting instructions you will receive in the mail and return your ballot as soon as possible.
